Additionally, we work on one off orders as well as bespoke orders due to our manual vat capacity for anodising.
Badger Anodising is a leading Birmingham-based metal finishing company. For over 60 years, we have been providing our clients with top-quality aluminium polishing services and exceptional results. Our full list of metal and aluminium anodising services include:
Bead blasting involves using fine glass beads at high pressures to remove surface deposits, rough edges, and any hidden fungi before anodising and polishing aluminium and other metallic products. It is similar to using sandpaper, but the result is much smoother and even, leaving the surface ready to be anodised. Consequently, the finish of the product lasts much longer.
Our pre-treatment services help apply an early finish that enhances the look of metal before we anodise it. Pre-treatment services we offer include Etching, Semi-Bright, Chemical Brightening, and Chromate Finishes.
Our anodisers ensure that your products receive a thick and durable anodic oxide layer specifically designed to meet your needs. Apart from the standard anodising process, we also colour anodised aluminium should you require your products in a certain colour. For our colour anodising services, we offer a wide range of colours including red, orange, green, blue, violet, brass, silver, gold, and black.
Metal polishing and metal finishing add the gleam many buyers associate with brand new items to your products. At the same time, we seal the anodic oxide layer to improve the metal’s corrosion resistance and wettability. With years of experience under their collective belts, our metal polishers and anodisers guarantee a product that shines as bright as a diamond and is just as durable as one.
We usually recommend that polishing and finishing be done alongside our other services. Clients, however, may choose to take advantage of our polishing and finishing as a standalone service.

For metal products that require surfaces to have a smooth appearance, the process of metal polishing is normally employed. Metal polishing involves the use of abrasives on the surface of an item in order to remove oxidation, prevent contamination, create a reflective surface, prevent corrosion, or to enhance appearance. To prevent further oxidation on the metal product’s surface, we also perform metal finishing and then apply a coat of oil, wax or lacquer. At Badger Anodising, we can polish and finish all types of metals in large and small volumes.
In addition, our polishers also offer a variety of metal finishing processes to treat the exterior of a metal. These methods result in a number of benefits, including increased durability, improved appearance, enhanced electrical conductivity, higher electrical, chemical and tarnish resistance, and potential for vulcanization. It has also been noted that polished and finished metals require a lesser amount of cleaning time.
Predominantly, we specialise in polishing aluminium but we also work with other metals. Give us a call so we can accommodate your special requirements for metal polishing and finishing.

Applying different polishing or metal finishing techniques prior to treatment enables us to enhance and extend our surface finishing offerings in addition to that already provided by standard sulphuric anodising. Badger Anodising (Birmingham Ltd.) specialises in bead blasting services in Birmingham, West Midlands, U.K.
Bead Blasting is the process of removing surface deposits on various metals by applying fine glass beads at high pressure using compressed air without damaging the surface. This process is usually applied to metals such as aluminium, titanium and stainless steel, as well as softer metals like silver, copper and brass. It is a type of high pressure cleaning that lessens the risk of damaging the surface compared to conventional blasting methods that involve the use of sharp particles like quartz sand.
This process leaves a very fine textured and uniform finish to components once anodised. The effects it produces are similar to that of sandpaper but with a cleaner, more even finish. It is considered a low-cost process as the beads themselves are inexpensive and the air pressure equipment can be powered the same way as pneumatic tools. It’s inexpensive and quick, and ensures that your model, pattern or tool comes out with a great surface finish minus the sandpaper, fillers or solvents.
The bead that is used is Guyson Honite which is a premium quality soda-lime glass bead, manufactured specially for impact blast finishing applications. This is one of the most efficient materials used in cleaning aluminium and other types of metals. It is a chemically inert iron free product available in a range of bead sizes and can be used for a wide variety of cleaning, finishing and Peening operations.
Applications of this kind of Abrasive Blasting
Cleaning, Peening, sheen surface finishing, general cleaning of tarnished components and Inert cleaning of sensitive surfaces such as moulds, auto parts and dies. Further applications are removing heat scale and discolouration, creating a non-reflective finish, cosmetic enhancement and hiding of surface imperfections as well as many more. While sanding processes can take hours, bead shot takes a shorter time and the process is simpler that it is able to preserve a surface’s quality without distorting it or changing its dimensions.
Badger Anodising has been providing bead shot blasting, anodising, and metal and polishing and finishing services for more than 60 years. It has always been our goal to provide high-quality service and offer our clients exceptional results in a short period of time. We have always believed in providing honest and consistent standards aimed at satisfying customers. Our unique set of skills and proven track record have resulted in long-lasting partnerships with all our clients in the U.K.

Some examples of our work
Aluminium has long been a popular material due to its abundance as well as its ability to resist corrosion. For many manufacturers, using this metal for their products may not be enough. To further increase the visual appeal and durability of aluminium products, anodising, polishing and finishing may be applied.
For longer-lasting and more beautiful finishes, however, Badger Anodising Ltd. highly recommends our pre-treatment services before anodising aluminium. Aluminium surfaces can be improved and enhanced using our polishing techniques and the following pre-treatment services:
Etching produces a matt finish this will cover most extrusion lines, surface scratches and give an even coverage. If etching does not cover the extrusion lines, on your aluminium extrusions, we can also offer polishing which will blend in the surface prior to etching.
For those looking for a matt finish but with a little more style, we also offer semi-bright pre-treatments. This will also give an even coverage to aluminium, but with a brighter appearance when compared to just etching.
Chemical brightening involves using a nitric acid-based chemical to produce a bright and decorative finish to colour work or silver, i.e. very good reflectivity for the lighting industry. This beautiful finish is preserved even better once the aluminium is anodised.
Please note, however, that not all aluminium alloys are ideally suited to chemical brightening. If you require any advice on this matter, please feel free to ring us and speak to one of our aluminium anodising experts.
Chromate finishes provide good levels of corrosion resistance combined with low electrical resistance. This can be left just as a coating or as a base coat prior to paint or powder coating as chromate finishes provide excellent retention. This form of pre-treatment is commonly used for pre-treating aluminium used in the aircraft industry.
Trade names are:
- Alocrom 1200 (yellow/straw colour)
- Alocrom 1000 (clear finish)
All of our pre-treatment methods are meant to enhance the appearance and quality of aluminium. These treatments work best when use alongside our other metal finishing services.

Anodising and Coloured Anodising
Anodising is a process used on aluminium and other types of metals to thicken and toughen the protective oxide layer of metals, resulting in a very hard substance that is second only to diamond. The resulting finish also allows for secondary infusions, such as colouring. Colour anodising is used for a variety of purposes other than to enhance the appearance of decorative hardware. Typically, this process is also employed for its anti-corrosive effects and for its ability to simplify assembly procedures, in effect, reducing assembly and installation errors.
Badger Anodising offers a standard range of colours shown in the picture which includes: Silver, Brass, Gold, Red, Violet, Green, Blue, Orange and Black. We offer a “stainless steel” look for aluminium; the application techniques are classified into three types, namely, sulphuric acid-anodising, hard anodising and chromium acid anodising. The stainless steel finish has proved very popular with varied manufacturers who produce cooker handles, fascias, car trims and display systems. Anodised aluminium is considered a high performance metal; it is fairly affordable, requires minimal maintenance, and if well preserved, the finish does not chip or peel. By simply rinsing the anodised surface, the item will look as good as new.
In comparison with regular spray painted items, anodised products have an exceptionally longer service life in outdoor applications provided that they are not exposed to excessive amounts of pollution. The anodising process does not only ensure longevity but also guaranteed protection from rust and recyclability of the anodised aluminium. There is, however, a possibility that colour anodised products can discolour over time and require retouches when exposed to too much sunlight.
Colour anodising is safe, non-toxic and not hazardous to human health. It is also chemically stable and heat-resistant to the melting point of aluminium. Badger Anodising offers different colours depending on the dimensions of the surface.
